Internship Proposal: Fabrication Lab Assistant

1. Introduction

The InnovationHub @ Creative Vision LLC is a state-of-the-art fabrication laboratory equipped with advanced prototyping tools and resources. Our mission is to support innovators, makers, and researchers in developing their ideas from concept to reality.

We are offering an internship opportunity for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to assist in managing and operating the lab while gaining hands-on experience with cutting-edge fabrication technologies.

2. Internship Title

Fabrication Lab Assistant Intern

3. Objective

The internship aims to provide students or aspiring professionals with practical experience in operating fabrication equipment, delivering technical services, and managing day-to-day lab activities while contributing to the lab's growth.

4. Key Services the Intern Will Support

1. Technical Consultations: Assist in providing guidance to members and visitors regarding fabrication techniques and prototyping best practices.
2. 3D Printing & Design: Operate and maintain FDM 3D printers, help with CAD design and slicing software, and deliver quality 3D-printed parts.
3. PCB Fabrication: Support in PCB design, soldering, rework, and testing using the lab’s electronics workstation.
4. Research & Development (R&D): Contribute to R&D projects by prototyping and testing components as directed by senior lab members.
5. Membership Management: Assist in onboarding new members, scheduling machine usage, and organizing training sessions.

5. Lab Facilities Available

Interns will gain hands-on experience with:

• Soldering and rework stations
• FDM 3D printers
• Laser cutter/engraver
• Electronics bench tools
• PC workstation for CAD/PCB design
• Meeting space for collaborative sessions
• Coffee corner for networking and breaks

6. Responsibilities of the Intern

• Operate and maintain lab equipment safely.
• Assist in providing technical support to users.
• Document lab processes, usage logs, and maintenance schedules.
• Support workshops, demonstrations, and events hosted by the lab.
• Collaborate with R&D teams on prototypes and projects.
• Help with inventory management and ordering consumables.

7. Duration & Commitment

• Duration: 3 months initially, with the possibility to expand to 6 months based on performance and mutual agreement.
• Hours per week: 20–25 hours/week

8. Learning Outcomes

Interns will gain:

• Hands-on experience in digital fabrication technologies.
• Skills in 3D printing, PCB fabrication, and prototyping workflows.
• Knowledge of lab management and customer interaction.

9. Eligibility Criteria

• Engineering, design, or technology students (or enthusiasts) with interest in digital fabrication.
• Basic knowledge of CAD tools, electronics, or prototyping (preferred).
• Willingness to learn and work in a collaborative environment.

10. Internship Compensation Structure

Trial Period (First 2 Weeks)

• Purpose: Hands-on training in lab equipment, safety protocols, and service processes.
• Stipend: No allowance during this period.

Regular Internship (After Trial Period)

• Fixed Allowance: 50 OMR per month.
• Performance-Based Incentive: 25%–50% of the income generated from the services they directly handle (e.g., 3D printing, PCB fabrication, R&D projects).
• Example: If an intern handles services generating 100 OMR in a month: Total payout = 50 OMR (allowance) + 25–50 OMR (bonus) = 75–100 OMR.
